Birmingham Netball League - Winter 2024/25
As one of the oldest and largest Leagues in the Country, established in 1946, the BNL have continued to grow and offer Grassroots Netball to a diverse level of abilities, catered to by at least 12 divisions (rising to 13 some seasons!) Now based at the outstanding facilities at the University of Birmingham, with access to 10 superb courts, we truly are right at the heart of netball in Birmingham.
And not just for players – needing 20 Umpires per round, we are also proud to support our Officiators, and offer an outlet for them to progress their skills and work through their levels.
As the Winter League in Birmingham, our playing season runs from September to April, with weekly matches split between Higher Divisions (1-9) and Lower Divisions (10-15) on alternating Saturdays, incorporating over 40 Clubs and almost 100 teams. All teams division 4 and below play their matches at our Central Venue, and our ‘Premier Divisions’ (1-3) play their matches around the City, at various indoor locations.
Our passionate Committee of Volunteers, led by Debbie Rolinson, our League Chair, tirelessly organise divisional placements, fixtures, matches, timetables, umpires and all the behind the scenes administration to ensure the smooth running of the League and are inspired by the huge numbers of participants we watch play our beautiful sport on a weekly basis.
While we are specifically the Birmingham Netball (Winter) League, we do work closely with our Colleagues in the other Birmingham Leagues – Summer Senior League & Intermediates League - and with the Birmingham Netball Association (who also offer Funding to Coaches and Courses to Coaches), to co-ordinate dates on events and tournaments (dates and times of which are on the Website Calendar) and particularly with the County Umpiring Secretary, who organises Umpire Assessments, working closely with the BNL’s Team of Umpiring Administrators – Click on them for links to all their pages.
The BNL hold an annual AGM in May/June and application forms for each new season need to be in to us by the June 30th each year. Information updates and bulletins on this will be posted on this website. We also offer funding to Umpires, who wish to progress past their Into Officiating – click on the links for more info.
So, welcome to Netball in Birmingham!
